Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted and valued business partner to stakeholders and senior management across Susquehanna’s multiple businesses in APAC, including proprietary trading, market making, liquidity provision, and institutional sales and trading.
- Provide legal support on a diverse range of legal and regulatory matters, such as dealing, brokerage, execution, custody, clearing, prime brokerage, market access, electronic trading arrangements, technology, infrastructure, and market data.
- Collaborate with the Compliance function to advise on regulatory licensing, interactions with APAC regulators, and regulatory inspections or investigations.
- Contribute to strategic projects and business development initiatives in the APAC region.
- Manage organizational legal matters and provide legal input on a wide range of commercial and operational issues.
- Work closely with other members of the in-house legal team in the APAC region.
Requirements:
- Holder of a current practising certificate in Hong Kong, Singapore, UK, or Australia.
- Minimum of 8 years’ post-admission experience, including private practice experience at international law firms.
- Strong commercial judgment with the ability to provide nuanced, pragmatic, and commercially sound legal advice while actively engaging with the business and senior leaders in the region.
- In-house sell-side or buy-side experience in global markets, securities, or derivatives across various business structures, product/asset classes, and jurisdictions, particularly in institutional client-facing businesses.
- In-depth understanding of APAC rules, regulations, regulatory frameworks, and the regulatory environment relevant to Susquehanna’s businesses.
- Broad knowledge of corporations law, securities law, and corporate governance.
- Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with exceptional legal drafting and communication abilities (both written and spoken).
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and workload efficiently.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and collegially with team members and colleagues in Hong Kong and other offices, including Susquehanna’s US headquarters, within a global firm framework.
- Proficiency in written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin), Japanese, or Korean is highly regarded.
